DAWS Animal Welfare Society Announces 2025 Making a Difference Gala

Annual fundraising event to honor community leaders and raise vital support for homeless pets

Danbury, CT — September 3rd, 2025 — DAWS Animal Welfare Society is proud to announce its annual Making a Difference Gala, taking place on Saturday, October 25th 2025 from 6:00–11:00 PM at The Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, CT.

The annual DAWS Gala invites community members, DAWS supporters, and animal lovers to gather for a celebration with fine dining, dancing, and luxury auctions. Tangled Vine, the popular local band, will perform at the Gala this year. All proceeds benefit DAWS’ mission to promote responsible pet guardianship and provide shelter, care, and adoption services for homeless cats and dogs.

For over 50 years, DAWS has been a cornerstone of animal welfare in Western Connecticut, rescuing thousands of pets each year, providing low-cost spay/neuter services, and helping animals find their forever homes.

DAWS is honored to have this year’s Gala chaired by Kim Catania of Catania Communications, a dedicated supporter of the organization and respected community leader whose expertise and passion are helping make the event a success.

As part of the evening, DAWS will recognize three distinguished honorees for their exceptional contributions to the animal welfare community:

David & Cindy Whitehouse – Longtime supporters of DAWS, the Whitehouses have generously sponsored every major DAWS event and contributed in extraordinary ways to save and improve the lives of countless animals.

Lieutenant James Antonelli – A member of the Danbury Police Department with more than 20 years of service in K-9 training and handling. Lt. Antonelli has been instrumental in advancing police K-9 programs throughout the region and continues to oversee the Danbury Police Department’s K-9 unit.

The Julia Wasserman Animal Welfare Fund – Established through the estate of the late Julia Wasserman, former state representative and lifelong advocate for animals. The fund, managed through the Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, continues Julia’s legacy of supporting animal welfare initiatives.

“Our Gala is not only a celebration of the lifesaving work DAWS does every day, but also an opportunity to honor the incredible individuals and organizations whose generosity and dedication make that work possible,” said Adam Carley, Executive Director. “Together, we are making a difference for the animals who need us most.”
